Short interest is the number of shares sold short and not yet covered, reported by broker-dealers to FINRA twice a month and published about a week later; these figures are as of 2026-09-30. It is a share count: FINRA publishes no percentage of shares outstanding and this site does not compute one. Days to cover is FINRA's own ratio of shares short to average daily volume, so it is high both when many shares are short and when few shares trade, and FINRA never reports less than 1. Securities for which FINRA reports no average volume are left out. A short position can be one leg of a hedge or an arbitrage rather than a view on the company, and neither side's presence says what the share will do.
